Seems Obama has been getting some heat over his lack of an American flag lapel pin on his "uniform." Here's what he had to say about it:
"You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin. Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest."
The likes of Bill Kristol (in today's NYT) call this a "grandiose" and "unnecessary and imprudent statement [that] impugns the sincerity or intelligence" of the other flag-bearers/sheep. We say that it's a brave statement that, frankly, we're surprised any politician had the cojones to make.
We also say, those g**d*** "Support the Troops" yellow ribbon car magnets should be next. Wake up, America, wherever you are.
(Editor's note-- we must confess that that last line came from an obscure TV program (Midnight Caller, wethinks) that we used to watch during a semester we spent in Sweden)
